A Perfect Family Evening on Our Beloved Luise-M: Drifting, Dining, and Fishing on the Gooimeer

After a busy day at work, there’s nothing quite like unwinding with family on our cherished 28ft Friendship sailboat, Luise-M. This time, we decided to enjoy a peaceful evening on the Gooimeer, where the calm waters and light winds promised a memorable experience.

We kept things simple, without fully equipping the boat for sailing, following a great tip from my colleague, Jan-Willem. He suggested a perfect spot for a slow drift and a relaxed dinner, and it did not disappoint! With a gentle southeast wind at just the right angle, we used the side of the boat as a makeshift sail, gliding at a leisurely pace of around 0.5 knots.

The breeze carried us slowly towards a nearby shipping lane, creating a tranquil setting for our family dinner. As we drifted, we shared stories, laughter, and a delicious meal under the open sky, while the soft waves gently rocked the Luise-M. Our dinner was complemented by a bit of fishing — the ideal way to unwind and enjoy quality time together.

Eventually, as we neared the shipping lane, we decided it was time to turn on the engine and motor back home. Thanks to our light preparation and quick departure earlier, docking the Luise-M was a breeze. The evening was short but sweet, filled with the simple pleasures of sailing, dining, and being with family.
